This is the place where you can personalize your profile!
But, how?
By moving, adding and personalizing widgets.
You can drag and drop to rearrange.
You can edit widgets to customize them.
The left side has widgets you can add!
Some widgets you can only access when you get a premium membership.
Some widgets have options that are only available when you get a premium membership.
We've split the page into zones!
Certain widgets can only be added to certain zones.
"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.
Don't forget, restraints can bring out the creativity in you!
Now go forth and astound us all with your devious profiles!
deviantART is actually really confusing. i've been on for 6 months and i'm still figuring stuff out. here are some basics.
+deviantWATCH is like a friend-request, sorta. You do that if you want to see someone's work when they post it. At the top of your screen next to your username, it'll say how many "deviations" you have, and that's where you'll see the people's work who you've +devWATCHed. the person gets a notification when you +devWATCH someone, and hopefully they'll +devWATCH you back! not necessarily, though.
+faving something just tells that person that you like their work, be it a poem or a photo, a story or a painting. it shows up in your "favorites" category. it also sends a notification to that person.
people are real nice in general, but a lot of people on dA are trying to get their art noticed, so if you fav their work, they are likely to thank you and be especially nice about it.
Commenting on other people's work/profiles/etc., asking questions, and maybe mentioning your own work on other people's profiles are all ways to get some publicity.
Also, joining clubs is a huge way to get noticed. they're sort of hard to find, but once you find one, look for their affiliates; pages and you'll find a bunch. here's a link to the photography clubs i'm in if you're interested: [link] Clubs are run by users so they all have different methods for joining and such, some are real easy and some are real annoying. oftentimes, not worth the hassle. Some clubs will reject your work for whatever reason, but don't worry about it. just forget about it and submit it somewhere else. people have different tastes.
uhmmmm... i'll think of more, but i'm going to sleep now! good night!
What are some basics? I don't really understand this portion. I was just looking into getting a portfolio going so I have mine at [link] but I don't understand what this part is.
you can post your artwork here and get publicity for it -- the portfolio alone won't do you any good, you need to get people to view it somehow. so on dA, you can join clubs where many people can see your artwork simultaneously. more importantly, you are able to find other people who have similar art interests as you, with whom you can collaborate, bounce ideas or advice off of, or get into the same circles of people to grow your audience further.
and then link your portfolio. because i wouldn't have seen your portfolio if you haven't linked it to me. and i wouldn't have been linked to it if you hadn't posted a couple pictures on your deviantArt for me to see.
